Frequently asked questions
What people ask most before they start. If your question is not here, call or send a Messenger message.
Starting out — is it for me?
1.I have never trained. Can I start from zero?
Yes. Beginners train in their own group and are taught the basics carefully, one step at a time.
2.I don't want to be a competitive fighter — I just want to lose weight and get fit. Is that OK?
Yes. You never have to compete. People who want to lose fat or get fitter train in their own group.
3.Can women train here?
Yes. Many women already train here.
4.Can children join? From what age?
Children from 10 can join. We don't take children under 10, but you're welcome to call and talk it over with the coach. There are children training here now.
5.Can older people, or people who are stiff or out of shape, keep up?
Yes — you train within your own body's limits. The coach also watches over each person individually. (If you have a health condition, please tell us beforehand.)
6.I'm worried about getting hurt. Is it dangerous?
Beginners are taught with the focus on correct technique and fitness, so it is not dangerous. The coach corrects bad technique on the spot, and sparring is never compulsory.
Classes and training
7.What is the difference between Lethwei and Kickboxing? Do you teach both?
We teach both, in the same class. Lethwei, Myanmar's traditional boxing, uses punches, kicks, elbows and knees — and headbutts too. Kickboxing concentrates on punches and kicks.
8.How long before I see results?
It differs from body to body. The more regularly you come, the sooner you will see a change.
9.How many times a week should I come? Is there a limit?
At Branch 1, come as often as you like. Six days a week, six sessions a day (closed Monday) — any session, as many times as you want. A morning session and an evening session on the same day is fine. Branch 2 runs three days a week (Wednesday, Saturday and Sunday), at set times.
10.Do you offer one-to-one training?
Yes — one-to-one sessions with Coach Phoe La Pyae. Each session is 1 hour 30 minutes at 50,000 MMK, paid as a pack of 10 up front (500,000 MMK). Times are arranged with the coach.
What to bring and the facilities
11.What should I bring to class?
Training clothes, a water bottle and a towel. Gloves and wraps are provided by the club.
12.Do I need to buy my own gloves?
No. You can use the club's, or bring your own if you prefer.
13.Are there showers, a changing room and lockers?
Yes — showers, a changing room and lockers, with shower soap provided.
14.Is there air conditioning? Is it hot to train in?
Air conditioning and air coolers are installed, so you can train in comfort.
15.Do classes still run in a power cut?
Yes, classes run as normal. There is six hours of backup power for the LED lights and air coolers.
Visiting and starting
16.Can I come and see the gym in person first?
Yes. Branch 1 is six days a week, six sessions a day (closed Monday). Branch 2 is three days a week (Wednesday, Saturday and Sunday), at set times. It helps if you contact us before you come.
17.How does the first day work?
You start from the basics. You train only with other beginners, so don't worry about keeping up. If you want to look around first, come during opening hours and talk with the coach.
18.Can I try a class for free?
There's no free trial class. But you're welcome to come and see the gym and talk with the coach. You start from the basics on day one, so there's nothing to worry about.
19.Can I pay for a single day?
No — there's no single-day pass. Training is by the monthly fee: 150,000 MMK a month at Branch 1, 100,000 MMK a month at Branch 2.
20.How do I pay?
You pay by the month, in cash or KBZPay, at the gym. There's no need to wait for the month to end — your month runs from the day you pay (pay on the 16th, train until the 16th of next month).
